  • 6 things the Lord hates... 7 that are detestable......

    I've read a lot of posts this week by people-Christian people who are not really happy with the way other Christians blog.  I think this is such a catch 22 situation.  As Christians whether we like it or not the bible talks about our faith needing to be visible to those around us.  It does this in the bible by talking about God's expectations for our lives in areas like; how we treat each other, the bible calls us to the higher roads of holiness and righteousness (no not self righteousness but 'rightness' in God), it tells us we should walk according to the Spirit displaying of the Fruit of the Spirit in our lives and yes even our works can be an pretty good indication of our faith.

    Yet how we interact with each other over such issues is just as important to God as how we live our lives.  Our witness can be lost in how and what we say to others.

    Accountability IS a biblical mandate, as IS church discipline and I would love to do a post about this another day. Yet in a very real way Xanga nor Revelife is not the church, and neither can it operate as one.  However on the other hand because where ever their are Christians, you have the Body of Christ- in a very real sense we are the church as well, because the church is her people.

    Fine line!

    I was reading the other day in the book Healing the Wounded-The Costly Love of Church Discipline, that often churches and Christians are quick to jump of sexual sins and things of a sexual nature because they see this as being a 'moral sin'. Yet there are many other sins that are let go in churches because people don't feel they are big enough to loving hold each other to account on.  The authors go on to say that often we think that sexual sin seems to be of more importance to God in the hierarchy of sins because of how frequently it is mentioned in the New Testament.  They suggest that this is not necessarily the case, but rather they are mentioned so frequently because so many people struggle with them.   They go on to list the following sins from Proverbs 6:6-19 (see below) as being incredibly important to God also.   The authors in no way suggest a hierarchy of sins, but rather suggest that we often can't see the forest for the trees.  We look for the obvious and let other things slide in our own lives as well.

    Anyway here is a little visual display of  Proverbs 6:16-19.

    There are six things the LORD hates,
           seven that are detestable to him:

    haughty eyes,
     a lying tongue,

    hands that shed innocent blood

    a heart that devises wicked schemes,

    feet that are quick to rush into evil

    a false witness who pours out lies
           and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

    These are some of the things that God hates!

    Do you think as Christians we tend to overemphasize some sins while leaving being content to leave others be?

    That's a hard line.  Because the Bible also says that while all sins are forgiveable, many are worse than others.

    I think you need to really look at what "self righteousness" is, hon.  I'm going to message you... because I think you've kinda gotten the wrong idea here, and haven't really looked biblically into how we should handle certain situations.  It's a sad effect of the watered down church...

    I love the visual you presented.  Pretty cool.  I totally agree that we focus on some sins while leaving out others.  Some are just easier to spot than others, but they all lead us off the path God wants us to walk on.

    9 He will not always accuse,
           nor will he harbor his anger forever;

     10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve
           or repay us according to our iniquities.

     11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
           so great is his love for those who fear him;

     12 as far as the east is from the west,
           so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

     13 As a father has compassion on his children,
           so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;

     14 for he knows how we are formed,
           he remembers that we are dust.

     15 As for man, his days are like grass,
           he flourishes like a flower of the field;

     16 the wind blows over it and it is gone,
           and its place remembers it no more.

    17 But from everlasting to everlasting
           the LORD's love is with those who fear him,
           and his righteousness with their children's children

    @Papillon_Mom@xanga -

     I think maybe we disagree with what/who the church is.

    For me the church is two fold.

    The Body of people who follow Christ.

    And corporate gatherings set up for fellowship and worship.

    I believe church discipline to apply to the second.

    I believe accountability to apply to both.

    @quiltnmomi@xanga - Praise God for that.......

    Good post.  I feel that people point out others sins to mask there own.  People will do anything to hide the dirt on there hands.  I always felt that if your are going to follow the way of the lord you must first and foremost hold yourself accountable for what you are doing, then if you see your brother or sister slipping you go to them in love, and let them know what you see.  You by no means demean them and tear them down, you want them to grow and do better not to feel bad and run away.  I feel that people want to take to much control and point fingers instead of dealing with the fact that the best thing to do for anyone is pray for them.  If someone has the holy spirit in them, its hard to accuse someone of sinning when you your self are guilty of the same thing, (speaking from personal exprieance) so you overcompensate by trying to out prove and make a big scene...not that its any of my business but i tend to wonder what those people who are pointing the fingers are going thru...

    And as far as sin is concerned...its all bad.  why argue over which is worse...just strive to live sin free...dose it matter which plate has the most dirt, i wouldnt want to eat off of either of them, give me the clean plate anyday!

    Very Good Post. Did you see the one I wrote It is about the same flavor .. & Love the site btw

    The quick and easy ans to your question is yes. I think that many times we are all too happy and content to point out the weaknesses and failings of our Christian brothers and sisters while turning a blind eye and a deaf ear to our own. It takes a disciplined heart to seek out our own failings first and then follow the mandate in the Good News concerning correction and encouragement of our fellow Christians. The fine line is always there because we are to deal with others in and with the love of Christ while following His directives concerning Godly correction holding fast to the gospel as presented to us by Christ.

    @Made2sing4Jesus@xanga - I didn't send me the link I am having a hard time keeping up at the moment... plugz and the feature have inundated me with new peoples...... I haven't even had the chance to catch up with most of my subs.

    BTW the site... is by my fav designer.  You should give her a go, I think  you would learn a lot from her

    xxx

    @The_Carpenters_Apprentice - Oh and isn't that a lot harder than it sounds?    It certainly calls for walking on higher ground.  I understand why Paul tells us that few should want to be teachers..... there is a huge responsibility that comes along with it, and deep humility.

    @izakura@xanga - Thanks Isaac and very nice too meet you.
